There's something so uniquely American about the way a "Mexican Pizza" is neither Mexican nor a pizza. And yet, "Mexican Pizza" fans will soon have to say goodbye to the Taco Bell classic.

The year 2020 has been an especially hard one for Taco Bell fans, who recently mourned the loss of many beloved menu classics, including the quesarito, the seven-layer burrito, and cheesy fiesta potatoes. And in another blow, Taco Bell announced in a press release on Thursday that it would cut several more menu items "to make room for new innovations."

"While we know fans may be understandably sad to see some of their favorites go, this evolution of our menu truly paves the way for fresh new ideas," Mike Grams, Taco Bell's president and global chief operating officer, said in the press release. "The creativity and innovation in our kitchen hasn't slowed down at all, and we look forward to rolling out new fan favorites."

Next on Taco Bell's chopping block are the "Mexican Pizza" and the shredded chicken filling. Additionally, pico de gallo will be replaced with diced tomatoes.

"We know some fans may be sad to see this one go, we are too," the press release reads. "One silver lining of saying goodbye to the Mexican Pizza that might help you rest easy is that removing it from our menus helps us work towards our commitment to leave a lighter footprint on our planet. Currently, Mexican Pizza packaging accounts for over 7 million pounds of paperboard material per year in the U.S."

Fans may be comforted to know that these menu changes also come with new additions. On November 5, Taco Bell is launching a $1 chicken chipotle melt nationwide, and green sauce will return regionally. Taco Bell will also start testing a "quesalupa" in Knoxville, Tennessee, starting September 24.
