Skippy is recalling 161,692 pounds of peanut butter that might contain small stainless steel fragments

Skippy on Wednesday announced a recall of 161,692 pounds of peanut butter – apparently about 60,000 jars – that might have a small piece of stainless steel in them from a piece of manufacturing equipment, per NBC Chicago.

"Skippy Foods, LLC, out of an abundance of caution and with an emphasis on the quality of its products, is issuing the recall to ensure that consumers are made aware of the issue," a company statement said.

The company added its facility's "internal detection systems identified the concern," and that it does not have any consumer complaints associated with the issue.

The recall affects certain runs of Skippy Reduced Fat Creamy Peanut Butter Spread, Reduced Fat Chunky Peanut Butter Spread, and Creamy Peanut Butter Blended With Plant Protein.

You can use a link on Skippy's website to look up if your jar of peanut butter falls within the group. The company added no other product varieties were included in the recall and that customers can exchange an affected product at stores.

The voluntarily recalled product was shipped to 18 states, the company said: California, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Indiana, Illinois, Kansas, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oklahoma, and Wisconsin.

Skippy, a division of food giant Hormel, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
