Read the full memo: McDonald's outlines plans for layoffs and shift in strategy
- McDonald's offices will temporarily close as the company prepares for layoffs, per an internal memo.
- The company is shifting its strategy to focus on digital, delivery, and restaurant unit growth.
McDonald's CEO warned employees about possible layoffs in early January. This week, employees will learn more about the fate of their employment.
In a memo shared with staff last week that was seen by Insider, McDonald's corporate employees were told to work remotely from April 3-5 and to reschedule any in-person meetings at McDonald's global headquarters in Chicago in order to "communicate key decisions related to roles and staffing levels across the organization."
"We are committed to our values guiding our decisions, how we communicate those changes, and how we will support every member of the company," the company said. McDonald's declined to comment when contacted by Insider.
The layoffs are part of the company's growth strategy, known as "Accelerating the Organization" and "Accelerating the Arches." The strategy includes focusing on digital, delivery, and opening new units. The change comes as the company has continued to top Wall Street expectations.
During the company's latest earnings call in late January, McDonald's CEO Chris Kempczinski said that customers were "resilient" despite inflationary pressures.
McDonald's employs over 150,000 corporate employees, including employees at its corporate-owned restaurants.
