The Chicken Sandwich Wars of 2019 are still raging on.

Popeyes has put several classified ads in national newspapers that advertise job openings for employees to work specifically on Sundays, a day that its rival, Chick-fil-A, is famously closed. The ads ran on Sunday in The New York Times, New York Post, Boston Globe, and Miami Herald.

"With the hype around the Popeyes Chicken Sandwich, many restaurants have experienced an increase in sandwich orders, especially on Sundays," a Popeyes spokesperson said in a statement. "The company is seeking to hire more employees to staff its restaurants on Sundays to help meet such demand."

The spokesperson added: "Job requirement highlights include people who have previous experience cooking chicken sandwiches for other restaurants the other six days of the week."

Tensions between Popeyes and Chick-fil-A have been high since August, when Popeyes added a chicken sandwich to its menu and challenged the dominance of Chick-fil-A in the category. The two chains engaged in a Twitter spat, which helped Popeyes' new item go viral and sell out nationally after two weeks.

Popeyes brought back its chicken sandwich on Sunday, November 3, a move that many saw as a direct jab at its competitor that is known to remain closed on Sundays.

Popeyes even released a video of someone adding the words "Open Sunday" to a Popeyes sign, which was juxtaposed with Chick-fil-A's sign that notes that the chain is "Closed Sunday."

The feud between Popeyes and Chick-fil-A has become known colloquially as the Chicken Sandwich Wars of 2019.

"Popeyes continues to be humbled by the love its guests have shown for The Chicken Sandwich," Popeyes told Business Insider. "We decided to have fun with this by posting classified ads, alerting potential hires to some of our openings. And yes, they must have Sundays open."
