A Walmart in the suburbs outside Chicago lost $7,300 dollars worth of products and spent $2,400 in clean-up costs after a man entered the store Wednesday wearing a mask and sign that said, "Caution I have the coronavirus," and sprayed Lysol on merchandise, police told NBC Chicago.
Authorities said two suspects, believed to be in their 20's, entered the store Wednesday. One of the suspects put on a yellow mask and sprayed clothing, health and beauty products with Lysol, in addition to produce, according to the report.
The two were seen leaving the store in a white 2003 GMA Yukon registered in Oswego, according to NBC Chicago.
This incident comes in the wake of 11 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the US in Illinois, California, Arizona, Washington, and Massachusetts, according to the CDC. No deaths have been reported in the US although nearly 500 deaths have been reported and 24,000 confirmed cases worldwide.
