MSCHF's latest release is a double-ended sneaker that makes fun of our obsession with putting shoes on fast

MSCHF's Big Red Boots took social media by storm in February, and quickly drew comparisons to shoes worn by cartoon characters Astro Boy and Boots from "Dora The Explorer."
Just in time for summer, MSCHF is now releasing a new sneaker that can be put on in two ways — the conventional way or backwards through the toe box of the sneaker.
Dubbed the MSCHF BWD shoe, the sneaker appears to poke fun at a growing amount of slip-on footwear options in the market today that also prioritize dual functionality.
Under Armour this year debuted its UA Slipspeed shoe that acts as both a slide and conventional sneaker. Other brands like Kizik and Skechers also offer hands-free sneakers marketed as being easy to slip on and off.
The MSCHF BWD releases April 11 via a one-hour draw on the art collective's website and mobile app. The sneakers will retail at $135. Pre-release, the shoes are going for as much as $997 on resale marketplace StockX.
Similar to MSCHF's rollout of the viral Big Red Boots, celebrities have worn the BWD shoes in the days leading up to the release, building much anticipation for the shoes. Actor and music artist Donald Glover sported the MSCHF BWD shoes at a recent NBA game. The shoes are also featured in a recent Fall Out Boy music video.
MSCHF additionally commissioned a photo shoot of a model wearing the BWD shoes around New York City.
Sneakerheads' reactions on social media have been mixed since the shoes were unveiled.
MSCHF's releases are historically not limited to just footwear, but a few of its sneakers have gone viral since its founding in 2016. As an example, In 2019, MSCHF debuted custom Air Max 97 "Jesus shoes" that the company said were filled with 60 cc of holy water sourced from the River Jordan.
But not all of MSCHF's creations are as wacky as that, or even its upcoming BWD shoes. Some of its past releases are a bit more subtle, such as the Super Normal 2 Mint released last month. The first iteration of the Super Normal shoe released in June 2022.
