- A California company is recalling 2 million Cosori air fryers, US product safety officials announced Thursday.
- The appliances were sold in stores or online through merchants such as Amazon, Target, and Walmart.
More than 2 million Cosori air fryers have been recalled after reports of the appliances "catching fire, burning, melting, overheating and smoking," the US Consumer Product Safety Commission announced Thursday.
The air fryers were sold in Target, Best Buy and Home Depot stores nationwide and online at Amazon, Walmart.com and numerous other e-commerce sites.
The recall came after the agency received 205 reports of faulty appliances. Of those, 10 cited "minor, superficial burn injuries" and 23 reports cited "minor property damage" as a result of using the air fryers.
"Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled air fryers and contact Cosori to receive their choice of a free replacement air fryer or another Cosori product," the commission said. The agency said a "wire connection in the air fryers can overheat, posing fire and burn hazards."
Cosori said it is "committed to the safety" of consumers who use its products, and apologized for any inconvenience tied to the voluntary recall. "After a thorough investigation, we determined that in extremely rare circumstances, the closed-end crimp connectors within the recalled air fryers – which are responsible for establishing electrical connections between certain wires – can overheat, posing fire and burn hazards."
Anaheim, California-based Atekcity Corp. imports Cosori's air fryers, which are made in China. The machines, sold from June 2018 through December 2022, ranged in price from $70 and $130. About 2 million of the air fryers have been sold in the US, while about 250,000 were sold in Canada and 21,000 in Mexico.
The recall applies to air fryers that hold either 3.7 or 5.8 quarts with the colors black, gray, white, blue or red, the commission said.
In addition to Best Buy, Target, Home Depot, Amazon, and Walmart.com, the air fryers were also sold through sites such as Adorama.com, Bedbathandbeyond.com, Cosori.com, eBay.com, Homegoods.com, Kohls.com, Lowes.com, Macys.com, QVC.com, Staples.com, Vesync.com, Wayfair.com, Wellbots.com, and Woot.com.
The model numbers of the recalled appliances are: CP158-AF, CP158-AF-R19, CP158-AF-RXW, CP158-AF-RXR, CAF-P581-BUSR, CAF-P581-AUSR, CAF-P581-RUSR, CP137-AF, CP137-AF-RXB, CP137-AF-RXR, CP137-AF-RXW, CS158-AF, CS158-AF-RXB, CS158-AF-R19, CAF-P581S-BUSR, CAF-P581S-RUSR, CAF-P581S-AUSR, CO137-AF, CO158-AF, CO158-AF-RXB, CP258-AF.

"During registration consumers must provide their contact information and submit photos of the recalled unit with the cord cut off. No receipt is needed to receive a replacement," the commission said.
