McDonald's is eyeing even bigger burgers, the fast-food giant's CEO told CNN.

"In the US, in a number of markets, around the world, having a larger burger is an opportunity," Chris Kempczinski told CNN. "We're working on that. That is something that you should expect in the future."

In a document accompanying McDonald's investor update Wednesday, the company said that it would be "piloting a new large burger equity."

CNN reported that Jo Sempels, McDonald's president for international developmental licensed markets, said during the call that customers want "larger, high-quality burgers that fill you up." Sempels said that McDonald's would trial them in limited markets and roll out the best one more widely.

McDonald's has not said whether the larger burgers would feature bigger patties and buns or other they would simply add more patties. The biggest burger on its core US menu is the double quarter pounder, which features two beef patties that collectively weigh around eight ounces prior to being cooked.

The news comes amid McDonald's massive overhaul of its burgers, including its trademark Big Mac. The refresh includes having thicker bun bases to preserve heat, pieces of onion poured directly onto some of the patties as they cook, and adding more sauce to Big Macs, The Wall Street Journal reported.

McDonald's is also launching a new restaurant concept, CosMc's, which will focus on customized beverages including iced teas, coffee, and lemonades.
