Krispy Kreme is giving away free doughnuts to US healthcare workers every Monday until May 11.

The chain said that these workers only need to show their employee badge at the drive-thru to be given a box of a dozen doughnuts.

"Pick up some free dozens on the way to work for you and your colleagues, or maybe a free dozen on your way home to family after a long shift," the company said in a statement to the press this week.

The company also said that it would be offering a free box of a dozen doughnuts for every pick-up, drive-thru, and delivery order on Saturdays from March 28. The idea is that customers can offer a free box to a neighbor, it said.

These boxes will be bagged and sealed individually and will come with instructions about how to do a contactless drop-off to comply with social distancing advice.

Krispy Kreme is among the chains and restaurants in the US to be offering deals and free products during the coronavirus pandemic. This is partly to keep these places in mind when shoppers head out to get food.

A group of executives from the US' major fast-food outlets have been in discussion with President Donald Trump about the important role that their chains could play in feeding America during this time.
