The world's most expensive ice cream is being sold for around 873,400 Japanese yen, or $6,316, per serving.

The dessert, called byakuya, has set a Guinness world record because of its eyewatering price tag.

Made by Japanese ice-cream brand Cellato, the dessert includes white truffle, which is sourced from Alba in Italy and costs around $14,500 per kg, per a blog post by Guinness World Records.

Other ingredients include Parmigiano-Reggiano, edible gold leaf, and sake lees, per Cellato's website.

Per the Guinness World Records blog post, Cellato wanted to include both European and Japanese ingredients in the ice cream, so it turned to a chef known for fusion cuisine for help.

"It took us over 1.5 years to develop, with a lot of trials and errors to get the taste right. Achieving a Guinness World Records title made the effort all worth it," a Cellato company representative told Guinness World Records.

The company is planning to release more products such as Champagne and caviar in the future, according to Guinness World Records.

A representative for Cellato did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment, made outside normal working hours.

Scoopi Cafe in Dubai previously served what was considered to be the most expensive ice cream in the world. The ice cream, which cost $817, also included Italian truffles, as well as other ingredients such as ambrosial Iranian saffron, and edible 23-karat gold flakes.
