- June 2 is National Donut Day.
- Customers can score free doughnuts at stores nationwide, from Dunkin' to Krispy Kreme.
Dunkin', Krispy Kreme, Tim Horton's, and many other chains are celebrating National Donut Day by giving out free doughnuts.
The Salvation Army says the tradition was established in 1938 to honor its "Donut Lassies" who served front-line soldiers by the thousands in World War I.
Here are some of the national restaurant chains offering the sweet treats for free today. And don't forget to check out local and regional chains, which may also have specials.
