- Elon Musk called a Tesla McDonald's promo featuring Cybertruck-inspired spoons "fake news."
- Musk replied to a post about the spoons, saying, "Fake news afaik."
Tesla's new promotion with McDonald's in China even confused Elon Musk.
Tesla investor Sawyer Merritt posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, to share an image of a Cybertruck promotion involving 50,000 limited-edition McFlurry spoons. Musk replied to the post saying, 'Fake news afaik." This led Merritt to point out the information came from Tesla's verified Weibo page.
The "Cyber Spoons" mimic a Cybertruck-inspired angular design and silver color. The limited-edition McFlurry spoons come with a storage tube, which features the words "powered by Tesla."
The spoons reportedly cost around 30 yuan, or $4, per The Verge.
This is not the first time Musk's companies have resulted in bizarre or unusual merchandise. The EV maker has also sold a $250 tequila in a lightning bolt-shaped bottle and red, satin shorts branded across the back with "S3XY" in a taunt to Tesla short-sellers.
Other Musk company merch has included flamethrowers, perfume, and surfboards.
Tesla has also launched a "multifunctional cat nest" inspired by the Cybertruck's angular design. The bed is also only available in China.
Tesla's futuristic trucks are due to make their way onto roads in the coming weeks. On an earnings call in April, Musk said he hoped to hand over the first customer trucks by late September.
However, recently shared images of the long-awaited EV have some buyers and onlookers wondering what exactly they're getting. Little information about the vehicle specifications has been made available and there has been uncertainty around pricing and delivery timelines.
