2 Wendy's superfans had red-dye makeovers to get free chicken nuggets for a year
- Two Wendy's superfans won a year's supply of chicken nuggets after dyeing their hair red.
- The fast-food chain ran the promotion to coincide with World Redhead Day Friday.
Two Wendy's superfans who dyed their hair to match the fast-food chain's iconic red-headed mascot will get free chicken nuggets for a year.
The chain ran a competition for UK fans to dye their hair "Wendy's Red" at a salon in London, offering them a chance to win a free portion of four chicken nuggets a week for a year.
Natalie McMillan and Chris Watts, it was too good an opportunity to pass up. McMillan dyed her hair, while Watts dyed his beard to mark World Redhead Day Friday May 26.
As they underwent their makeovers, other redheads queued outside of a Wendy's store in Camden to get their hands on their own portion of free chicken nuggets with their orders.
"I'm obsessed with Wendy's Spicy Nuggs so winning a years' supply has made my day," McMillan said. " My nearest Wendy's is in Maidstone so I try to visit as much as I can. Whenever I have to work in London, I always make sure to pop into the Camden restaurant."
The fast-food chain is rolling out changes to some of its restaurants, including automating its drive-through services by installing a chatbot at its store in Columbus, Ohio, in June.
It's also testing out underground tunnels for pick-up orders through a partnership with Pipedream, a startup that builds underground, robot-powered delivery systems. Its plan is to deploy robots to deliver food from its restaurants to customers' cars.
A Wendy's representative previously told Insider it will unveil the tunnels at a store in the second half of the year.
