I tried Shake Shack for the first time ever - here's what I thought
It's 40 degrees on a Friday in Manhattan. This is the original Shake Shack line at noon. It only opened an hour earlier and the line is already this long.
As I inched closer to the front, I took a look back — the line never seemed to stop growing. It surprised me that people are willing to stand in the cold just for a burger!
The brand's Shack Cam allows customers to monitor the line from the office or at home. There I am almost ready to place my order!
So what should I get? There are a bunch of options other than burgers at Shake Shack. Custards, hot dogs, and the new chicken sandwich all look appealing.
Even dogs can get a treat!
Half an hour later, I made it to the front of the line. Although tempted by the chicken sandwich, I ordered a classic Shackburger, cheese fries, and a black-and-white shake for $15.86. Not cheap compared to other burger joints I've been to.
But then I had to wait again for the food! The wait gave me a mixed feeling of impatience and hungry anticipation. Hanger is a real thing for me.
When I told my coworkers I was going to Shake Shack for lunch, a bunch of them wanted to join me. Even those who couldn't leave their desk asked us to pick something up. It seems like having Shake Shack is a reward for a long week of work.
Finally, after almost an hour, I get to dig in! It looks beautiful.
These are the cheese fries I've heard so many remarks about. I actually really enjoyed them. They were warm and crispy, and I like the classic look of them. Not greasy at all. I wasn't sure how I would like the cheese sauce so I got it on the side. Good thing too, because I prefer the ketchup.
When I ordered the black and white shake, the cashier informed me that this is a customer favorite. It's swirl of chocolate and vanilla, and it's the perfect treat to this hearty meal. It's not too sweet, and I thought the vanilla had a more prominent taste than the chocolate.
And yes, I'm one of those people who dips their fries into milkshakes. Delicious!
And finally, my first bite of the Shackburger ...
I am very impressed! The burger melts in your mouth, accompanied by a blast of flavor. It's very savory and the cheese is melted perfectly over the patty, topped with a Shack Sauce that is mysteriously tasty. Now I get why people willingly wait in line for this food. I am officially a Shake Shack loyalist.
... and I ate every last bite. No regrets.
