Aug 14, 2014, 20:46 IST

Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon (D) is reportedly going to remove the St. Louis County Police from the city of Ferguson after days of officers responding violently to protests over the shooting of Michael Brown on Saturday.

Rep. Lacy Clay (D-Missouri) told a Bloomberg News reporter he is currently "on his way to St. Louis now to announce he's taking St. Louis County police out of the situation." Bloomberg's Derek Wallbank said Clay also claimed Nixon didn't specify whether the state police or FBI would step in.

The St. Louis County Police reportedly told Joel Currier of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch they aren't aware of reports that they're being relieved of duty.

Congressman Clay's office, Gov. Nixon's office, and the St. Louis Country Police Department didn't immediately respond to requests for comment from Business Insider.

We'll update this story as we know more.
