REPORT: Exit Polls Show Bill De Blasio Crushing The NYC Mayoral Race, While Spitzer Is Trailing

Sep 11, 2013, 06:40 IST

Exit polls show Public Advocate Bill de Blasio winning New York City's Democratic primary for mayor with 43% of the vote, according to a tweet from New York Times Political Editor Carolyn Ryan. Former Comptroller Bill Thompson is second with 25%, followed by Council Speaker Christine Quinn with a disappointing 18%.

A candidate can avoid a runoff and win the Democratic nomination outright with at least 40% of the vote.

According to Ryan, the exit polls also show former Governor Eliot Spitzer trailing in the race for Comptroller, with 47% to Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer's 53%.

Exit polls are not always reliable and polls released right at 9 PM may not reflect votes cast in the evening. So, we don't know yet that de Blasio and Stringer are tonight's winners. But it's looking good for them.
