Today’s launch kicked of with Manu Kumar Jain, the Managing Director for Xiaomi India, announced that Xiaomi has continued to be the top smartphone company in India for the six consecutive quarters. He also pointed out that the gap between Xiaomi and the South Korean company, Samsung, has also been increasing over these quarters.

The company claims that the Redmi Note 7 Pro is Redmi’s fastest phone yet with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 675 chipset. It’s also the first time that the Redmi Note series will have a phone with 128GB of storage.

Xiaomi is also claiming that the Redmi Note 7’s ‘Aura design’ is a new feature with a 6-layer gradient finish. It’s available in 3 colors — Neptune Blue, Nebula Red and Space Black.

Both phones come with a 6.3-inch full-HD+ display but the Redmi Note 7 series biggest selling point — 48-megapixel camera — is absent from the Note 7.

When the phone launched in China, the feature was present on both devices. In India, however, the 48-megapixel camera will only be seen on the Redmi Note 7 Pro powered by the Sony IMX586 camera sensor and supported by a secondary 5 megapixel depth sensor.

The Redmi Note 7, on the other hand, will have a dual camera setup in the back with 12 megapixel and 2 megapixel sensors.

While the Redmi Note 7 Pro might not have the Snapdragon 675, the company claims that Redmi Note 7 will be equipped it with the ‘complete’ Snapdragon 660 processor — asserting that phones like the RealMe 2 Pro, Asus Zenfone M2 Pro, Oppo K1 and Vivo 11 pro have been misleading consumers while actually using the Snapdragon 660 Lite version of the chipset.

Both phones are equipped with a 4,000mAh battery and support Qualcomm’s QuickCharge 4 technology that enables faster charging.

And audiophiles need not fear because even though Xiaomi removed the 3.5mm headphone jack from its recent Mi A smartphone, the jack is still present on the Redmi phones.

Improvements over Redmi Note 6 Pro

Aside from the obvious improvements in camera and chipset, the Redmi Note 7 Pro the most noticeable feature upgrade is the phone moving full notch to a ‘dot notch’ display which is basically the ‘water drop’ design.

The Redmi Note 7 also has 4K UHD video recording while the Redmi Note 6 was only capable of Full HD video recording.

Switching over from matte finish to the reflective glass design, may not or may not be an upgrade, depending on user choice.

Xiaomi also launched two new devices — the Mi LED TV 4A Pro 32-inch and Mi Sports Bluetooth Eearphones Basic. The smart TV based on the Android operating system costs

The Google Assistant-based smart TV is priced at ₹12,999 whereas Bluetooth earphones are priced at ₹1,499.
