Ray-Ban has done something to curb fakes. Here’s what it is

May 13, 2016, 12:07 IST
In a bid to clip fake products flooding the online marketplaces, Ray-Ban has converted its India website into an ecommerce platform.

The eyewear brand, Ray-Ban, followed the footsteps of Puma and Adidas, which set up their own ecommerce platforms in India.

Since India has allowed global single brand retailers to sell items under one label, Ray-Ban appointed Ace Turtle to manage its online platform, which manages Puma, Flying Machine and French Connection, etc.

Due to mushrooming counterfeits, Ray-Ban was badly hit and last year Luxottica Group, the parent organisation of Ray-Ban, moved Delhi High Court against ShopClues.com, accusing it of selling fakes and misleading customers by offering heavy discounts.

Luxottica also registered cases against CraftsVilla and Sytlemyway for allegedly marketing fake Ray-Ban products, according to the Delhi High Court website.

"Luxottica is fully committed against counterfeiting, and this is demonstrated by the implementation of numerous activities: from the constant monitoring of the main counterfeit product suppliers to the partnership with local law enforcement and custom operations to seize the products, and ultimately the activation of legal actions against perpetrators," Akash Goyle, country manager for Luxottica India, told ET.
