Manda Packing Company recalled meat that was sent to retail stores in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas, the USDA said in a news release.

Investigators bought a slice of the company's roast beef in Tennessee and found it contained the bacteria. Dozens of deli meats are part of the recall.

Consuming listeria can result in the disease Listeriosis. Symptoms of the disease include fever, muscle aches, and vomiting, and it kills one in five people it infects.

The Consumerist pointed out that some of the meat might have been sliced at delis, making it difficult for consumers to identify whether it fit the dates and descriptions of the recall.
