Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore has won from the Jaipur Rural seat by over 3.5 lakh seats.
In Jaipur rural, the fight for the Lok Sabha seat was between two sporting stars – Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore from the Bharatiya Janata Party and Krishna Poonia from the Indian National Congress.
The exit poll results too had said that Rathore would win the seat.
Jaipur rural had recorded a voter turnout of 61.58%.
Rathore has found his way back into power with – votes. The Olympian shooter and a retired Colonel from the army, had gained much respect in his constituency for having paved the way for development. He is also a youth icon in the area. Rathore’s fight was against Poonia – Commonwealth gold medallist and an Olympics participant. Poonia’s husband Virender Poonia belongs to the region allowing her the advantage of favouritism. The Jats from the constituency had earlier spoken to the media about their preference towards Poonia because of her caste.
However, Rathore who also holds the position of Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting and Sports at the Centre, held onto his seat with a reported campaign for people to vote for a national leader.
In the 2014 elections, Rathore had beat INC candidate had come to power by a margin of 3,32,896 votes.
