Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his foreign trips, has been marketing India as an investment destination and strong economy but RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan said these messages should be backed up with action on the ground.
Rajan said world view about India was changing positively after Modi’s foreign visits but added they need to be backed up with "action on the ground".
"He is a very articulate spokesman for India. What we need to do is back up his visits with action on the ground which reinforces the good impression that is created," Rajan told a TV channel.
He said Modi was ahead of them but when investors come in India, they should not feel disappointed.
"I think he (Modi) is ahead of us. So we have to come up to speed in a number of dimensions. For example, if the idea of India as a strong economy is sold outside and they come in, and they don't find the ease of doing business, the permissions, etc. people aren't (happy)," he said.
Rajan expressed that improvement the reality on the ground was the need of the hour.
