Radiohead just wiped its entire history on all social media and started over

May 3, 2016, 20:29 IST

The British quartet behind hits like "Creep" and "Paranoid Android" just wiped their world-famous band, Radiohead, from Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. The band's website is gone as well.

In place of years of postings, there are now two short, stop-motion videos.

Radiohead is reportedly on the verge of releasing a new album, potentially named "Burn the Witch," and both fans and music reporters alike are looking to the social media wipe as a means to introduce the new album.

Let's step back for a moment and unpack all of this.

First and foremost, fans and music writers were sent this crazy-looking leaflet from Radiohead recently:

Notice the notorious Radiohead symbol in the lower right, embossed into the paper. Also notice the "BURN THE WITCH" text in all caps. Maybe the image at the top is the album cover? It's the right shape!

But that's all an educated guess. Radiohead hasn't said anything just yet; again, the band's social media accounts are totally wiped. Well, okay, they were totally wiped until nine hours ago, when the band posted a claymation video to its Instagram account:

And then, another six hours later, this longer video (with some music) was posted to the same Instagram account:

That's where we're currently at. So here's a quick recap:

  2. Radiohead sends out leaflets to fans and music media with an ominous message and an image that looks like a record cover.
  3. Radiohead posts a few claymation videos to its Instagram account.

The band is also gearing up for a tour, with shows in Amsterdam and Paris starting in late May. Wouldn't you know it: just before going on tour is a great time to release a new album! So let's have it, fellas!
