She was once a gawky kid with low self-esteem, and now, she has joined the likes of Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan, actors from India who are recognised worldwide for their contribution to the world of cinema. This success has not come easy to Priyanka Chopra, whose road to fame started in 2000 when she won the coveted Miss Universe title at the tender age of 18.
After several Bollywood films, modelling assignments, brand endorsements, hit musical singles and being the lead in a primetime American show, it was the time for her to do what everyone associated with the entertainment world dreams of doing.
It was time for her to grace the red carpets of the Academy Awards, be present amongst the who’s who of Hollywood, and give out an award for the Best Editing category.
Dressed in a naked dress by Lebanese designer Zuhair Murad with minimal make-up, diamond earrings and neatly done hair, she looked ravishing, she walked onto the stage with actor Liev Schreiber. Then came the proud moment for India, when her intro popped up on the screens, calling her a veteran with over 50 Bollywood films.
