Premier League clubs spent $1.4 billion on players during summer transfer window
The 20 clubs in England's Premier League combined to spend $1.4 billion (£897.9 million) on new players during the summer transfer window that closed on Tuesday, according to Sporting Intelligence.
Manchester City led the way with $236.0 million in expenditures including $157.7 million combined for attacker Kevin De Bruyne and forward Raheem Sterling.
Of course, these teams also sold players during the transfer window with players leaving teams generating $637.7 million brought in for the 20 clubs combined. That is still a net amount spent of $736.7 million.
