The post positions and opening odds are now set for the Preakness Stakes, with Justify running as the clear favorite to win the race and continue his run towards the Triple Crown.

  • The race for the Triple Crown returns this weekend with the 143rd running of the Preakness Stakes.
  • On Wednesday, post positions were drawn, with Justify once again racing out of the seventh gate _ the same spot he won from in the Kentucky Derby.
  • The morning line odds were also set at the draw, with Justify as the heavy favorite at 1/2.

The 143rd running of the Preakness Stakes is set for this Saturday as Justify looks to continue his undefeated career in the second leg of the Triple Crown.

After a crowded field of 20 talented horses raced in the Kentucky Derby, just eight will take to the starting gate at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. Among them will be some familiar faces - Good Magic, Bravazo, and Lone Sailor will all look to improve upon their finishes at Churchill Downs.

There will also be some new horses racing in their first Triple Crown race as well, including Diamond King and Quip, whose fresh legs could come up big should Justify falter in the stretch of the track.

Since the field far less crowded than the Kentucky Derby, post position is far less crucial - horses can't be forced all the way to the outside or lost in a pack of 20 horses if they get out to a slow start. Still, the post draw makes each horse's starting position official, and the morning line odds provide a starting point for any bettors preparing their trifectas for Saturday.

Post positions were drawn on Wednesday, with the morning line odds being set shortly after.

You can see where every horse stands heading into the race below.

  1. Quip (12/1)
  2. Lone Sailor (15/1)
  3. Sporting Chance (30/1)
  4. Diamond King (30/1)
  5. Good Magic (3/1)
  6. Tenfold (20/1)
  7. Justify (1/2)
  8. Bravazo (20/1)

The Preakness Stakes will take place on Saturday, with coverage set to start on NBC at 5 p.m.
