Porsche Launches Compact SUV Macan In India At Rs 1 Crore

Leading sports car manufacturer Porsche, a part of the Volkswagen group, has launched its much-awaited compact SUV Macan in India. The car has been launched in two different variants. Macan S Diesel is available at a price of Rs 1 crore and Macan Turbo petrol will retail at Rs 1.11 crore, both ex-showroom Delhi.
Macan has turned out to be a very popular SUV. The car is fully sold out globally and in India, the compact SUV has been fully booked for 2014.

Despite being a compact SUV, like any of its sports cars, the Macan Turbo can hit from 0 to 100 in about 4.8 seconds and the Macan S Diesel in 6.1 seconds. Porsche has offered air suspension system with ride height adjustment, fully variable all-wheel drive, lighting package, bi-xenon headlamps, three-zone climate control and electronically operated tailgate as standard features.

Anil Reddi, director, Porsche India said, the Macan compact SUV, will help the German automobile manufacturer reach out to new customer segments in India. It will lure buyers of other luxury car brands into the Porsche fold.

"With the launch of the Macan, we intend to expand this further, but we don't want lose out on the exclusivity that Porsche guarantees. We are not in the pursuit of volumes and as a policy, we will always sell one car less than what the market demands," he asserted.

In India, Porsche has been present for over a decade - first as an importer and later through the National Sales Company. About 1,500 to 2,000 Porsche are running on the Indian roads. Interestingly, women are emerging as a new customer segment for Macan.

Porsche is also revamping its dealer network in the country which will be spread across at 8 different cities by the end of 2014. Porsche has showroom spread across Mumbai, Gurgaon, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Kochi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and the one in Kolkata, will be shortly inaugurated.
