- Election Day for the 2022 midterms is Tuesday, November 8.
- Opening and closing times for polling places varies in each state, so make sure to verify yours before you vote.
The last day to vote in the 2022 midterm elections is Tuesday, November 8. For voters who choose to cast their ballots in-person on Election Day, the times polls open and close vary by each state.
Most states have polling sites open for at least 12 hours a day. As noted in the chart, some opening and closing times are dependent on what county and time zone the polling places are located in, so be sure to verify what times your local precinct is open for voting hours.
States that are split between two time zones may not have full election results available until the last polling station closes.
Lines tend to be longer towards the beginning and end of Election Day, so try to cast your vote around midday if you are able, especially if you plan to register and vote at the same time in one of the 17 states (and DC) that offer same-day voter registration. Many states offer time off work options in order to accommodate employees for voting time.
Regardless, be prepared to wait in line with your state's required proof of identification form ready.
As long as you are in line by the time the polling station closes, you should be able to cast your ballot in every US state.
If for some reason you are in line by closing time, but told you cannot vote or someone interferes with your right to vote, you can contact the nonpartisan Election Protection hotline (offered in multiple languages) at 1-866-OUR-VOTE (1-866-687-8683) for assistance.
