Trump wants to start a new super PAC headed by former campaign manager Corey Lewandowski, report says

  • Trump told political advisers this week that he plans on starting a new super PAC, Politico reports.
  • The former president reportedly wants his former campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, to run it.
  • Sources said nothing is confirmed yet and that Trump could still change his mind at any moment.

Former President Donald Trump wants to form a new political action committee (PAC) and plans on having his former campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, run it, Politico reported Thursday.

Trump is said to have held a multi-hour meeting at his Mar-A-Lago resort in Florida on Thursday. He discussed his new political direction with some of his closest advisers, a source familiar with the conversation told Politico.

The attendees included his eldest son, Donald Trump Jr, former campaign managers Brad Parscale and Bill Stepien, former White House social media director Dan Scavino, and senior adviser Jason Miller.

The source said that everyone at the meeting seemed to be "on the same page" but that nothing has been confirmed yet, and that Trump could change his mind at any moment, The Hill reported.

In a statement to Politico, Trump adviser Miller said: "MAGA supporters and candidates supporting President Trump's America First agenda are going to be impressed with the political operation being built out here."

Miller added that there would be more announcements in the coming weeks, "which will include some very talented operatives not yet named."

Trump already has a leadership PAC called Save America, which was launched after the 2020 election and banked around $31.5 million by the end of December.

The former president previously used the Save America PAC to endorse Republican candidates, including former White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who is running for governor in Arkansas.

While leadership PACS are limited in how much money they can raise from individual donors, super PACS do not have a limit. However, super PACS are not allowed to contribute directly to a politician or political party.

The report comes as Trump tries to maintain his grip on the Republican Party. On Friday, Trump already made his first endorsement of a primary candidate running against one of the 10 House representatives who voted to impeach him.

He is also due to speak at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) on Sunday, making his first public appearance since leaving office last month.
