Trump takes aim at Biden's stutter, falsely claiming the president 'was stuttering through' an entire speech
  • Former President Donald Trump took aim at President Joe Biden, accusing him of stuttering in a speech.
  • An analysis by BI found that Biden did not stutter over the word "democracy," as Trump said.

The 2024 presidential election may give the country déjà vu as the contenders shape up to be — barring any upset in the GOP primary — President Joe Biden again facing off with former President Donald Trump.

And once again, it appears Trump intends to mud-sling his way through the campaign with his ever-present jabs.

The day before the third anniversary of the January 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol by herds of Trump supporters, Biden spoke at a campaign event in Pennsylvania and maintained Trump is a threat to democracy.

Trump responded to Biden's statements hours afterward on Friday at an event in Iowa, the Washington Post reported. He aimed at Biden's stutter, accusing the president of "stuttering through the whole thing."

"He's saying I'm a threat to democracy. 'He's a threat to d-d-democracy,'" Trump said, pretending to stutter and squint at a teleprompter. "He couldn't read the word."

A BI review of Biden's speech found that Biden did not stutter over the word "democracy" during his speech, which lasted over 30 minutes. Instead, he spoke clearly — and at times, passionately — in favor of democracy, only misspeaking a few times and recovering quickly.

Biden has spoken openly about his stutter, particularly during his 2020 presidential campaign. He has worked since childhood to work through the speech impediment.

"It has nothing to do with your intelligence quotient. It has nothing to do with your intellectual makeup," Biden said in 2020 at a CNN town hall.

The then-candidate for president noted that he stutters on occasion when he is "really tired," CNN reported.

"You have to break it up, because you get so nervous," Biden told CNN.

Meanwhile, Biden's campaign called Trump "confused" following his event on Friday, where he appeared to ramble about energy policies.
