- Democratic former Rep. Tom Suozzi won Tuesday night's special election in New York.
- As a result, Trump took to Truth Social to insult the GOP's losing candidate, Mazi Pilip.
Former President Donald Trump railed against the GOP's losing candidate in New York's 3rd Congressional District's special election on Tuesday, attributing her loss to not having supported him enough.
Democratic former Rep. Tom Suozzi bested Republican candidate Mazi Pilip on Tuesday by just under 8 percentage points, surpassing expectations set from prior polling amid a heavy New York snowstorm.
Trump, the Republican Party's leading 2024 presidential candidate, posted a late-night screed to Truth Social after the results came out, lambasting Pilip for losing the uniquely important vacant House seat.
"Republicans just don't learn, but maybe she was still a Democrat?" Trump wrote, referring to Pilip being registered to vote as a Democrat for over a decade when chosen as the GOP's nominee. "I have an almost 99% Endorsement Success Rate in Primaries, and a very good number in the General Elections, as well, but just watched this very foolish woman, Mazi Melesa Pilip, running in a race where she didn't endorse me and tried to "straddle the fence," when she would have easily WON if she understood anything about MODERN DAY politics in America."
Pilip, as Trump said, stayed relatively mum on the topic of the former president during her short campaign to replace expelled former Rep. George Santos, not once endorsing his reelection bid.
As a result, according to Trump, "MAGA, WHICH IS MOST OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY, STAYED HOME - AND IT ALWAYS WILL, UNLESS IT IS TREATED WITH THE RESPECT THAT IT DESERVES."
Since Pilip's loss, shrinking the GOP's already-narrow majority in the House, Republican members have begun coming out of the woodwork to suggest that expelling Santos in late 2023 was a mistake.
Semafor also reported Wednesday afternoon that Santos sent a group text to New York House Republicans after the special election's results came in, mocking them for expelling him.
"I hope you guys are happy with this dismal performance and your 10 million for futile Bull Shit cost the party," Santos texted. "I look very forward to most of you losing due to your absolute hate filled campaign to remove me from Congress arbitrarily. Now go tell the Republicans Base what you fucking idiots did and good luck raising money next quarter."
