Trump randomly brought up his border wall when Fox News' Sean Hannity talked about Biden banging his 'head against the wall'
- Former President Trump had a misunderstanding with Fox News host Sean Hannity on Thursday night.
- Hannity used a metaphor about President Biden banging his own head against the wall.
Former President Donald Trump on Thursday went on a tangent about his unfinished border wall after Fox News host Sean Hannity teed him up with a completely unrelated question.
Hannity was complimenting Trump on a comment he made earlier in the interview where he wished President Joe Biden well.
"Forget about politics, I want him to do well," Trump said.
"I want America to do well, I really do, with all my heart," Hannity replied. "There's no course correction with [Biden]. He seems locked into every one of these failed policies, so it's, you know, you keep banging your head against a wall — why would you expect a different result?"
Trump appeared to take the wall part of the question literally, not metaphorically.
"So we would've had the wall completed in three weeks," Trump said. "It was largely completed. We did almost 500 miles of wall, and the southern border."
Before Trump ran on building a wall that he promised Mexico would pay for, there were already 654 miles of fencing across the nearly 2,000 mile long US-Mexico border, and the Trump administration only ended up adding 80 miles of new barriers, according to a US Customs and Border Patrol count in January 2021.
One topic that did not come up during Hannity's interview with Trump was the growing body of text message correspondence the Fox News opinion host had with the White House around the January 6 insurrection.
Hannity and Trump did compare the Capitol riot to looting during summer 2020, which coincided with anti-racism protests in major US cities following the police killing of George Floyd, a Black man in Minneapolis.
Trump also bragged about endorsing Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is his first Republican primary, and dismissed rumors of a rift between the two.
