Former President Donald Trump said on Friday night that his former attorney Rudy Giuliani had been hospitalized for a heart condition.

"Rudy is getting well now," the former president told a Las Vegas, Nevada rally.

Trump said that Giuliani had "a big problem, a heart problem" and that he was in a hospital because of "what they put Rudy through."

He did not specify who "they" was, but the timing of the comment coincides with the news this week that the Fulton County special grand jury had issued Giuliani with a subpoena.

The special grand jury is investigating Trump's attempts to overturn the 2020 election in Georgia.

Giuliani is among a handful of Trump allies, including South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham, who has been subpoenaed as part of the investigation, per CNN.

Insider contacted Trump's post-presidency office to seek clarification on who "they" are, but did not immediately receive a response.

The former New York City mayor also made headlines last week after a ShopRite grocery store employee slapped his back. Giuliani told Curtis Sliwa, who hosts a radio show on77 WABC, that it felt like "somebody shot me."

The Legal Aid Society, representing the ShopRite employee, said Monday that Giuliani had exaggerated the incident, Insider reported.

The incident occurred while Giuliani was on the campaign trail for his son, Andrew, who lost New York's Republican gubernatorial primary to Lee Zeldin.

Andrew Giuliani told the New York Post that his father had been experiencing "discomfort for weeks" but didn't tell anyone about his pains until the primary was over.

The former New York City mayor underwent heart stent surgery to open up two clogged arteries on Tuesday, his son said, per The New York Post.

Insider reached out to Giuliani's legal team for comment but did not immediately receive a response.

According to NBC News correspondent Vaughn Hillyard, who spoke to Giuliani's attorney, the 78-year-old is now out of the hospital and "doing pretty good."
