E. Jean Carroll, the columnist who recently won her sexual abuse and defamation lawsuit against Donald Trump, is co-writing a novel with one of the former president's most vocal critics — his niece.

Mary Trump, who was born to Fred Trump Jr., the eldest son of Donald Trump's father, authored a memoir in 2020 on the former president's upbringing in "Too Much and Never Enough," followed by another nonfiction book, "The Reckoning," which examines how the US can move forward in the aftermath of the Trump administration.

For her next foray into writing, Trump decided to pivot to the world of romance, enlisting the help of Carroll and Jennifer Taub, a professor at Western New England University School of Law, according to the Substack newsletter, Backstory Serial, where the novel will be released in installments.

"It's completely unlikely and weird and counterintuitive," Mary Trump told The New York Times about the novel.

Carroll confirmed the novel on her Substack and said it will be titled "The Italian Lesson."

"Yes. Yes. Yes. Mary is writing The Italian Lesson, and, YES, it is a strange and luscious, mysterious and very romantic story. And YES, there is knitting, Italian wine, house cows named Bella, lots of fashion, chickens, a very bad man, and a cinnamon roll hero," Carroll wrote.

Mary Trump, Carroll, and Taub befriended each other in a Zoom knitting circle during the height of the pandemic, according to Backstory Serial. They initially considered collaborating on a screenplay for a "Hallmark" romance movie but abandoned the idea.

Instead, the three chose to publish a serialized romance novel through Substack. The online book will be released over the next year, with the first installment to be released Friday.

The authors did not divulge the plot of the story. The first few paragraphs of the novel were released Tuesday.

In an interview with the Times, Carroll said the book will "have some very delicious scenes, as only Mary can describe them, so they're going to be a little weird, but trust me, there are going to be some erotic scenes."

The Substack will be devoid of politics and any talk of Donald Trump, but each installment will also come with knitting patterns and Italian recipes.

"Backstory Serial is also meant to be a place outside of politics and the grind of the daily news cycle," Trump wrote in an email to her Substack readers. "I would be so grateful to have you join us there."
