Just days after Vice President Kamala Harris became the Democratic presidential nominee, six House Democrats joined with Republicans in passing a resolution targeting her.

The resolution, sponsored by Republican Rep. Elise Stefanik of New York, was rushed to a vote this week after President Joe Biden stepped aside.

The text condemns "the Biden Administration and its Border Czar, Kamala Harris's, failure to secure the United States border."

Harris never held the formal title of "border czar," though she was tasked early in the administration with addressing the root causes of migration.

Republicans see the southern border as a potential point of vulnerability for not just Harris, but Democrats more broadly. And the language Republicans used was overtly political.

"Let me be clear: Harris and every elected Democrat owns this historic border crisis that has turned every community into a border community," Stefanik said after the resolution passed. "It is time that we return to President Donald Trump's border security policies that put the safety of American citizens first."

Most of the Democrats who voted for the resolution represent conservative-leaning districts or face tough reelection fights this November.
