According to CNN, the Trump campaign is rethinking how it holds political rallies after the disappointment in Oklahoma, where the president addressed a largely empty arena after canceling a planned outdoor overflow event. Local officials estimated the crowd size at 6,200, far below the arena's capacity of more than 19,000.

Trump was said to be furious with the low turnout, reportedly yelling at aides backstage when he saw the empty seats.

People familiar with the matter told CNN that while no decision had been made, the campaign was reconsidering how to hold rallies in light of evidence from Saturday that Trump's supporters were still wary of gathering in public because of the coronavirus. Six campaign aides had tested positive shortly before the event.

The campaign also faces a new challenge with TikTok teens and K-pop fans, who said they reserved large numbers of tickets for the event in an act of activism meant to inflate the campaign's expectations for attendance numbers.

One campaign source told CNN that holding more rallies in airplane hangars could be an option. It was a staple of Trump's 2016 campaign, and the open-air setting could ease the concerns of supporters wary to meet in an indoor environment, where the coronavirus is more likely to spread.

Before the Tulsa rally, the campaign had tentative plans to announce another rally in the near future, but that has been tabled for the time being, CNN reported.

Some advisers told the outlet it could be weeks or even months before the campaign organized another rally.

Officially, the campaign has blamed the weak turnout on media coverage of the coronavirus, protests in the city, and demonstrators who it says blocked supporters from entering the arena. But a New York Times fact-check said these claims lacked evidence, since reporters in Tulsa witnessed few interactions between protesters and rally attendees.
