  • The Republican National Committee paid $300,000 for copies of Donald Trump Jr's new book, Liberal Privilege, reported The Daily Beast.
  • The sum is the largest ever paid by the RNC for books to be given away to party donors, according to the report.
  • An RNC bulk purchase of Trump's last book, Triggered, helped boost its place on bestseller lists.

The Republican National Committee paid $300,000 to a company owned by Donald Trump Jr. for autographed copies of his book to give away to GOP donors, The Daily Beast reported.

According to the report, the RNC paid $303,892.47 for copies of the president's son's new, self-published book, "Liberal Privilege." The book takes readers "behind the scenes of the swamp" and expose corruption by progressive elites, according to its description.

The money was paid to a company called Pursuit Venture LLC, which lists Trump Jr. as its principal, according to the report.

While it's common for political organizations to use book giveaways as part of campaigns to attract new donors, the sum spent on Trump Jr.'s book was the largest sum ever spent by the RNC on gift giveaways, The Daily Beast reported.

The RNC did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Business Insider has attempted to reach Trump Jr. for comment.

Trump Jr. is an executive in the Trump Organization, and a prominent campaigner for his father, President Donald Trump.

It's not the first time book sales between Trump Jr. and the RNC have come under scrutiny, with the party also spending $94,800 on his previous book, "Triggered," which was published by Hachette.

The bulk purchase of "Triggered" last year is believed to have helped to boost the book's place on bestseller lists, with the title reaching number one on The New York Times' rankings at the time.

Trump Jr.'s new book currently doesn't feature on The New York Times' bestseller list, where former President Barack Obama's new book, "A Promised Land," is currently at the top of the nonfiction hardcover list.

The RNC said last year that copies of "Triggered" were not purchased in bulk, but bought "to keep up with demand."

In a statement to The New York Times in August, the RNC said that it had bought several thousand copies of "Liberal Privilege," and planned on buying more as they were an effective fundraising tool.

"Don Jr.'s first book was a fund-raising powerhouse for the party, and we have no doubt this book will be the same," an RNC spokeswoman told the publication.

Trump's decision to self-publish his new book was unusual, with the arrangement meaning the author does not receive an advance or the publicity know-how of an established publisher, but does receive a larger share of royalties.
