  • The January 6 committee issued subpoenas to 10 more former Trump administration officials.
  • Both Stephen Miller and Kayleigh McEnany are included in Tuesday's batch of subpoenas.

The Select Committee to Investigate the January 6 Attack on the United States Capitol on Tuesday issued subpoenas to 10 former Trump administration officials, including Senior Advisor to the President for Policy Stephen Miller and White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany.

"The Select Committee wants to learn every detail of what went on in the White House on January 6th and in the days beforehand," said select committee chairman Rep. Bennie Thompson in a statement. "We need to know precisely what role the former President and his aides played in efforts to stop the counting of the electoral votes and if they were in touch with anyone outside the White House attempting to overturn the outcome of the election."

The committee is seeking records and testimony from McEnany because of her role in spreading false claims of voter fraud in her official capacity as press secretary, as well as the fact that she reportedly "popped in and out" of the room in the White House where former President Donald Trump watched his supporters storm the US Capitol on January 6.

As for Miller, the committee also cited his role in spreading false claims about voter fraud, as well as his connection to an effort to encourage state legislatures to send slates of "alternate electors" to the Electoral College. His subpoena letter also flags his presence with the former president at his "Stop the Steal" rally on the Ellipse on January 6.

"We believe the witnesses subpoenaed today have relevant information and we expect them to comply fully with the Select Committee's investigation as we work to get answers for the American people, make recommendations on changes to the law to protect our democracy, and help ensure that nothing like January 6th ever happens again," Thompson also said.

McEnany, Miller, and the eight other Trump officials subpoenaed by the committee have until November 23 to respond, and must sit for a deposition on December 14.

Here's the full list of the 10 former Trump administration officials subpoenaed by the committee today:

  • White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany
  • Senior Advisor to the President for Policy Stephen Miller
  • Personal Assistant to President Trump Nicholas Luna
  • White House Personnel Director John McEntee
  • White House Deputy Chief of Staff Christopher Liddell
  • Vice President Pence's National Security Advisor Keith Kellogg
  • Special Assistant to the President for Legislative Affairs Cassidy Hutchinson
  • Senior Counsel to Assistant Attorney General Jeffrey Clark, Kenneth Klukowski
  • Special Assistant to the President and Oval Office Operations Coordinator Molly Michael
  • Deputy Assistant to the President Benjamin Williamson

If any of the 6 individuals do not comply with the committee's subpoenas, the House could then vote to hold them in criminal contempt of Congress and refer the matter to the Department of Justice, as it did on October 21 with Steve Bannon. Nine Republicans broke ranks and voted with every Democrat to hold Bannon in contempt.
