The first person to be sentenced in the Capitol riot has been given no time in prison after she apologized and said she watched 'Schlinder's List' to educate herself

The first person to be sentenced over the Capitol riot has been spared prison time after she apologized and said she had educated herself with movies and books.

Anna Morgan-Lloyd, 49, was arrested on February 24 and later charged with entering a restricted building, disorderly conduct, violent entry, and parading, demonstrating, or picketing in the Capitol.

She made a deal with prosecutors and plead guilty to one count of picketing in the Capitol on June 15, according to court filings.

At her Wednesday sentencing, Royce Lamberth, a federal judge for the District of Columbia, sentenced Lloyd to three years on probation and 120 hours of community service, the Associated Press reported.

Lloyd was also ordered to pay $500 in restitution, the AP reported.

Lamberth said he was giving Lloyd a "break" even though "legally" he could sentence her to six months in prison, the AP reported.

Lloyd, who previously wrote on her Facebook page that the January 6 riot was the "best f---ing day ever," said on Wednesday that she wanted to apologize to "the American people."

"I'm ashamed that it became a savage display of violence that day. And I would have never been there if I had a clue it was going to turn out that way," Lloyd said, according to the AP.

"It was never my intent to be a part of anything that's so disgraceful to our American people."

As part of the defense, Lloyd's lawyer said that Lloyd had educated herself about the American experience to better understand her actions.

In a June 15 letter written to Lamberth, Lloyd's attorney, Heather Shaner wrote that Lloyd had watched the movie "Schlinder's List" to teach herself about "what life is like for others in our country."

Shaner said Lloyd had also watched the History Channel's "Burning Tulsa," and read books including "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee" and "Just Mercy."

As of Thursday, 525 people have been charged over the insurrection.
