Sen. Cory Booker said that he believes that Democrats have a strong chance in the Senate days before the upcoming midterms.

During an appearance on ABC's "This Week," host Martha Raddatz asked Booker about a recent FiveThirtyEight poll that predicts that Republicans have a 55% chance of taking control.

"The party in the White House usually loses during midterms, but the reality is we still have a very strong pathway — not just to keeping the Senate but really picking up seats in Pennsylvania and in places like Wisconsin and North Carolina," Booker said on the program on Sunday. "This election still is in the ballots. And the reality is we're bucking what are usual trends."

Polls have continued to show that voters are overwhelmingly concerned about the economy, and they believe Republicans are more likely to fix it. Meanwhile, Democrats have only recently pivoted to pushing Social Security and Medicare cuts as a key election issue, Insider's Juliana Kaplan previously reported. Democratic messaging has been mostly quiet on the headline economic issues of inflation and the housing market, instead centering around hot-button that included abortion, student loan debt forgiveness, and major legislative wins like the Inflation Reduction ACT.

"This is the party that made sure we did things to lower prescription drug costs and lower health care costs," Booker said on ABC Sunday. "That this is the party at the end of the day that's trying to protect fundamental freedoms like the right to control your own body. So I think this a tough elections season ... but I still see a pathway for us to maintain control of the Senate."
