  • The UK has deregistered Russian oil tycoon Eugene Shvidler's private jet, blocking it from leaving the country.
  • UK Secretary of State for Transport Grant Shapps posted a video of the grounded jet, believed to be worth roughly $13 million.

The UK has grounded a plane belonging to sanctioned Russian oligarch Eugene Shvidler, a billionaire oil tycoon and close friend of Roman Abramovich.

UK Transport Secretary Grant Shapps posted a video of Shvidler's seized jet, registered as G-LATO, on Twitter on Friday.

"Putin's barbaric war in Ukraine has led to his cronies thinking that they'd be able to continue to fly in and out on jets like this or bring their superyachts to the UK and our message is simple: That just simply isn't on," Shapps said in the video.

The Cessna Citation Latitude jet, believed to be worth around $13 million, has been stripped from the British aircraft registry, banning it from flight for the foreseeable future.

"We're going to make sure that where Putin's cronies benefited from his largesse previously, given what we're seeing happen in Ukraine, that can no longer be the case," Shapps added.

The jet remains at Biggin Hill Airport in London, where it was supposed to undergo maintenance and repairs, according to Bloomberg. Shapps ordered it be blocked from flight last month in order to start an investigation into its ownership.

This isn't the first private jet to be seized from Shvidler lately.

In early March, Shapps said the UK had impounded the oligarch's $45 million Bombardier Global 6500 jet, registered as LX-Fly, at Farnborough airport, located roughly 40 miles from London.
