Rep. Nancy Mace suggests she skipped morning sex with her fiancé to be on time for prayer breakfast

  • Sen. Tim Scott hosted the 13th annual South Carolina Prayer Breakfast on Wednesday.
  • The event is intended to put 'political differences' aside and celebrate Christian faith.

Rep. Nancy Mace of South Carolina apparently skipped an intimate morning with her fiance to make it on time to her state's annual prayer breakfast on Wednesday.

In a quip the GOP congresswoman recognized might be "a little TMI," Mace suggested she skipped sex that morning with her fiancé, Patrick Bryant, because she was going to be late to the 13th annual prayer breakfast that was hosted by Sen. Tim Scott. Political leaders host the event to celebrate their Christian faith.

"I woke up this morning at 7 ... Patrick, my fiance, tried to pull me by my waist over this morning in bed and I was like, 'No baby, we don't got time for that this morning. I gotta get to the prayer breakfast, and I gotta be on time."

Mace, who is a practicing nondenominational Christian, appeared to be coyly revealing that she was having pre-marital sex with her partner.

The South Carolina representative hasn't always fallen in line with her GOP colleagues on cultural issues.

Last year, Mace condemned restrictive abortion laws that did not carve out exceptions for victims of rape or incest being pushed in red states.

"There are folks, like in my state, that want to ban abortion for women who are victims of rape and girls who are victims of incest," she told NBC's "Meet the Press" in August 2022.

However, the congresswoman did recently vote to roll back abortion protections for military service members despite calling it an "asshole move."

Mace received light laughter from the audience, appearing a bit flustered for making the comment.

"He can wait. I'll see him later tonight," she laughed.

She later tweeted in response to the coverage over her comments: "I go to church because I'm a sinner not a saint! Glad those in attendance, including @SenatorTimScott and my pastor, took this joke in stride. Pastor Greg and I will have extra to talk about on Sunday."
