Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene claimed that Satan manipulates women into getting abortions.

"It's whispered, softly and gently, into your ears and into your soul," the congresswoman said in a TV interview with Catholic activist Michael Voris this week.

The Georgia Rep. said that Satan tells women "it's okay" to get an abortion and in exchange promises them "all these dreams that you have in your heart. And that's how Satan sells a sin, and that's how he sells abortion. He tells a woman that all you have to do is you're just going to go to this clinic, just going to get it over with, you know," she said.

"And then you're going to, that guy, he's going to stay with you, that boyfriend or the guy, whoever he is, he's going to marry you, sweep you off your feet."

Abortion continues to be a cultural flashpoint in the United States, with many Republican-led states recently introducing restrictive abortion legislation.

The Georgia congresswoman has long been a vocal opponent of abortion and has been known to invoke her Christian religion during confrontations with others over the topic.

Greene has stoked controversy this week by attacking the Catholic Church in the hour-long interview published on Monday with right-wing Christian activist Michael Voris, who runs a website called Church Militant.

In the interview, Greene also claimed that Catholics supported an "illegal invasion" by helping settle undocumented migrants and refugees and that there was evidence that "Satan is controlling the church."

Her comments were condemned by Bill Donohue, the president of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, who on Wednesday said she had "slandered the entire Catholic Church."

Greene replied with a lengthy statement on Twitter, claiming that she is a "cradle Catholic" who left the church "because I realized that I could not trust the Church leadership to protect my children from pedophiles and that they harbored monsters even in their own ranks."

"It's the church leadership I was referring to when I invoked the Devil. The bishops know that, but had their loyal lapdog pretend I was being disrespectful about the faith," she said.

Her comments about the church are just the latest in a string of controversies plaguing the congresswoman in recent weeks.

Greene was reported to have gotten into a heated confrontation with fellow GOP Rep. Lauren Boebert and was forced to testify about January 6 as a group seeks to challenge her 2022 candidacy.
