Rep. Jackie Walorski, a Republican member of Congress from Indiana, died in a car crash on Wednesday in Elkhart County, Indiana, according to a release from the Elkhart County Sheriff's Office.
"A northbound passenger car traveled left of center and collided head on with a southbound sports utility vehicle," the release states. "All three occupants in the southbound vehicle died as a result of their injuries"
Walorski died alongside her communications director, Emma Thomson, and Zachery Potts, Walorski's district director.
Walorski, who was 58, served as a member of the House of Representatives beginning in 2013 for Indiana's 2nd Congressional District. In January 2021, she became the ranking member of the House Ethics Committee. She also served as a member of the Ways and Means Committee and was the ranking member of the Worker and Family Support Subcommittee.
Prior to joining Congress, Walorski worked as a news reporter, a nonprofit director, and later became a Christian missionary in Romania. In 2005, Walorski was elected to Indiana's House of Representatives, a seat she held for five years.
