An updated grand jury indictment was filed on Thursday in the classified documents case against former President Donald Trump.
The initial indictment, filed on June 9, accused Trump of breaking federal law by taking documents with him when he left office. Some of the documents recovered in a raid at his Mar-a-Lago resort last year were contained classified information related to national security. Most of the charges brought against him involved violations of the Espionage Act. Prosecutors also named Walt Nauta, a personal aide to Trump, as a co-defendant in the case
The new indictment added two additional charges against Trump and named a third defendant, Carlos De Oliveira, who was a property manager at Mar-a-Lago. Prosecutors allege Trump, Nauta, and De Oliveira attempted to delete surveillance footage at Mar-a-Lago in the summer of 2022 to obstruct the investigation.
Trump has previously denied all wrongdoing in the case. His spokesperson told The Associated Press the updated indictment was "nothing more than a continued desperate and flailing attempt" by the Biden administration "to harass President Trump and those around him" and to influence the 2024 presidential race.
