Pennsylvania Republican Senate nominee Mehmet Oz loaned his campaign another $1 million, according to federal campaign documents filed Thursday.

Oz, a former television personality, has tapped into his personal finances throughout his highly competitive Senate race. He previously loaned $7 million to his campaign in the third quarter of the year, which ended in September, according to Federal Election Commission records.

In total, Oz has contributed $22 million toward his campaign and raised roughly $9 million in the third quarter.

Oz's opponent, Democratic Lt. Governor John Fetterman, raised $22 million in the third quarter of 2022, according to Federal Election Commission records.

As of September 30, the Fetterman campaign has taken in nearly $48 million and spent roughly $43.8 million, with nearly $4.2 million cash on hand. The Democratic nominee's fundraising has been fueled by small donations, with nearly half of those who have contributed having given less than $200.

During the same timeframe, Oz took in roughly $34.8 million and spent $32.3 million, with $2.5 million cash on hand. Roughly a third of Oz's donors have contributed less than $200.

While Fetterman enjoyed a healthy lead for most of the summer, the race has tightened in recent weeks.

Fetterman currently has a 2.2% lead over Oz on FiveThirtyEight, with the Democrat averaging 46.6% of the vote in the most recent polls, with Oz behind at 44.4%.

The contest, in a state won by former President Donald Trump in 2016 and now-President Joe Biden in 2020, could determine which party holds a majority in the United States Senate.

Democrats currently control the evenly-divided Senate by virtue of Vice President Kamala Harris' tiebreaking vote.

Trump threw his support behind Oz during the GOP primary process, which helped the first-time candidate eke out of a win over his closest challenger, former hedge fund executive David McCormick.

Fetterman, who served as the mayor of the borough of Braddock before his election as lieutenant governor in 2018, has centered his campaign on working-class voters across the state.
