MTG has been avoiding the chair of the GOP Freedom Caucus in an attempt not to get kicked out, report says
  • Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has been ousted from the GOP Freedom Caucus, a member told NBC.
  • The group's chairman had repeatedly attempted to tell MTG — but she ignored him, some members said.

The ultraconservative GOP Freedom Caucus voted to kick out Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia — but she tried clinging on by repeatedly avoiding its leader's attempts to do it, NBC News reported.

Rep. Ken Buck of Colorado, a member of the caucus, told NBC News' "Meet the Press NOW" on Wednesday that Greene was removed for her public feuding with other caucus members.

"She's not a member of the Freedom Caucus, and she shouldn't be in the future," Buck told NBC. "She has consistently attacked other members of the Freedom Caucus in an irresponsible way, and as a result of that she was kicked out of the Freedom Caucus."

Buck's comments are the most definitive yet about Greene's status in the group.

The vote to remove Greene took place on June 23, shortly after her public showdown with Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado, some members told NBC. Caucus members also did not agree with her criticism of colleagues who voted against Rep. Kevin McCarthy becoming House Speaker earlier this year, CNN reported.

After the vote, Freedom Caucus Chairman Rep. Scott Perry of Pennsylvania repeatedly tried to deliver the news to Greene — but she ignored him, the members said.

"The chairman has been trying to call her to let her know, but there haven't been any returned phone calls," Buck told CNN on Tuesday.

Greene had told reporters on Tuesday that she has not spoken with Perry, saying she only found out about the decision through the press.

"Congratulations, y'all did a great job. And I guess the Freedom Caucus does a good job of talking to you more than [their] members," she told reporters on Tuesday, according to the Hill. "I don't have time for the drama club."

A representative for Greene did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.

Greene is the first lawmaker to be ousted from the caucus since it was launched in 2015. The group is very selective in who it allows to be a part of it. It also refuses to release a full roster of its members.

Some lawmakers have spoken out in support of Greene, with McCarthy telling Axios on Wednesday he believes her ousting in a "loss" for the caucus.

"I think Marjorie Taylor Greene is one of the best members we have, I think she's the one of the most conservative members and one of the strongest legislators," he added.
