Mike Pence's 2024 campaign site glosses over that time he was Donald Trump's vice president
- Mike Pence is running for president against Donald Trump and a crowded GOP field.
- His campaign site is happy to detail what Pence did in Congress and as a governor.
Mike Pence's campaign for president in 2024 is up and running — with one major part of his career missing.
Pence, Trump's former Vice President, announced he's running for the nation's highest office on Wednesday, saying in a launch video that "different times call for different leadership."
Pence's campaign website bio details his time as a syndicated radio talk show host, a member of Congress, and governor of Indiana. The write-ups note how he pushed through the "largest income tax cut in Indiana history" and "helped make government smaller and more effective, reduce spending, and return power to state and local governments."
Just don't ask about his time as Trump's VP. Here's how Pence's campaign summed up his and Donald Trump's era when Pence was a heartbeat away from becoming president:
"They were elected by the American people on November 8, 2016 and entered office on January 20, 2017."
Four years in 18 words.
It's not surprising Pence would want to distance himself from Trump, who has lashed out at Pence as disloyal for refusing to overturn Joe Biden's win in the 2020 election. On January 6, 2021, pro-Trump supporters stormed the Capitol building during the insurrection and chanted that Pence should be hanged.
When asked if Pence deserves an apology during CNN's town hall event last month, Trump said that Pence was never in danger and that he "did something wrong" by not following through on Trump's plan to throw out the election results.
Pence, for his part, said that Trump's "reckless words endangered my family and everyone at the Capitol that day, and I know history will hold Donald Trump accountable."
