Donald Trump's former lawyer is relishing the fact that Trump's other former lawyer got indicted on multiple charges this week.
"Karma boomerang is a bitch!" Michael Cohen, who pleaded guilty to an array of felonies in 2018 and was sentenced to three years in prison as a result, told Insider in a text message.
He was referring to former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani, who was charged with RICO violations and a slew of other crimes in connection to Trump's efforts to overturn the 2020 election results in Georgia.
In addition to accusing Giuliani of violating Georgia's RICO statute, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis' office also charged him with solicitation of violation of oath by a public officer, false statements and writings, conspiracy to commit impersonating a public officer, conspiracy to commit forgery in the first degree, conspiracy to commit false statements and writings, and conspiracy to commit filing false documents.
Trump and Giuliani were among 19 co-defendants charged in the 98-page indictment from Willis' office.
"I see Michael Cohen is keeping it classy as always," Ted Goodman, a political advisor to Giuliani, said in response to Cohen's comments. "I don't have anything else to say in response to what is clearly a deranged statement from a man who must be dealing with some deep, personal issues. I pray Michael receives the help he needs."
Monday's indictment is a remarkable twist for Giuliani, who went from prosecuting RICO cases as a US attorney in the 1980s to becoming a defendant in a RICO case.
Trump, for his part, is reportedly upset that Giuliani was indicted — but not enough to pay his legal bills.
That didn't come as a surprise to Cohen, who has accused Trump of throwing him under the bus when Cohen was first criminally indicted in 2018.
"Trump is setting up all the co-defendants to bigly fail, including Rudy," he said. "Donald will not help out any of them financially, claiming that it might be considered improper for him or his PAC to pay their legal fees as he, too, is a named defendant."
