Meghan McCain isn't ruling out a career in politics, and says running for office in Arizona is 'way more interesting' than hosting a cable news show
  • Meghan McCain has said that she isn't ruling out a career in politics, according to a People interview.
  • She said she's more likely to run for office than host a cable news show.

Television personality Meghan McCain has said that she hasn't ruled out following in the footsteps of her father, the late Arizona Sen. John McCain, and entering the political arena, according to an interview with People.

"At some point, maybe," the 37-year-old former host of "The View" told the media outlet. "My tone keeps shifting because, quite frankly, the bench in Arizona is not great, but it's very Trump-y."

She went on to say that, despite reservations, she is more interested in running for office than hosting a cable news show.

"That's much more intriguing to me," she told People. "What's more likely, are you going to host a show on Fox or run for office? At this point in my life, moving home to Arizona and running for office sounds way more interesting."

The TV personality told People that if she were to run, she suspects she wouldn't win. "People hate children of politicians. People hate it," McCain said. "So I would probably lose."

If a career as a lawmaker doesn't play out, she continued, she might consider a role behind the scenes. "I really miss politics, and not that running for office- I have a friend who does political consulting for pretty high-level politicians, and I was thinking like maybe doing something like that in the future," McCain said.

"I feel very at home among political people. I feel very understood. We're all interested in the same things. And I feel really respected in a way that I don't necessarily feel in TV media, for whatever that's worth," she added.

Insider reported that she said she "threw up" after a combative segment with Joy Behar on "The View," and that she suffered a miscarriage days after her interview with Seth Meyers.

In 2019, McCain appeared on "Late Night with Seth Meyers" and had a heated exchange with the host over Congresswoman Ilhan Omar.

McCain has made headlines while promoting her new audiobook, "Bad Republican," which is available on Audible.

Former President Donald Trump lashed out at her Friday, calling her a "low-life" and a "bully," after McCain described Ivanka Trump as a "funeral crasher" and publicized details of a "weird phone call" with the former president when her father was terminally ill.
