Polls closed in the state at 7 p.m. local time, or 10 p.m. EST.
2022 General EmbedsSchieve and Lorton previously matched up against one another in 2018 when Schieve ran for and won her bid for reelection, besting Lorton by 29 percentage points.
Schieve has been the mayor of Reno since 2014. Prior to her time leading the city, she was an at-large member of Reno's city council for two years. According to her campaign website, she plans to work to address housing shortages and "bring a 24/7 mental health and treatment center" to the area.
In an interview with the Reno Gazette-Journal, Schieve elaborated and said that she also wanted neighborhood policing centers set up in each ward of the city so that "police officers become names and not just uniforms."
Lorton, a native of Ohio, is the owner of a carpet cleaning company in the city and an investor in real estate in Oregon, California, and Nevada. He pledged to increase transparency in the city's government, address the city's debt, and put "more of the major decisions into ballot measures."
